Without its team of world-class technologists, the Cybba office is just another trendy, converted warehouse with exposed brick. Cybba builds teams of innovative, analytical, and tenacious tech professionals to breathe life into every aspect of the company’s operations. Each individual elevates Cybba’s services from simply digital to truly transformational.
We are spotlighting Michael South, Senior Ad Operations Manager, and iced coffee connoisseur. Read on to learn about his penchant for HBO TV shows and exploring Harvard Square.
How long have you been in this position?
Over four and a half years; since February of 2015.
How did you start at Cybba and what made you want to join?
I entered my final semester of university looking for an internship where I could apply my mathematics background to marketing. Instead of an internship, I found a full-time position in advertising operations at Cybba. Everything from the technical nature of the position to the evolving industry to the company culture appealed to me. I switched into a Saturday class, finished my degree on the weekends, and began my career in ad ops.
What tips would you give someone entering the advertising industry?
Be proactive in learning about new technologies, optimization strategies, and growth opportunities.
What do you enjoy the most about your role?
I enjoy taking an analytical approach to marketing. I also appreciate the interdisciplinary nature of working with both the commercial and technical sides of the business. Most of all, I love working with a great team.
What is something that most people don’t know about you?
That I got married last weekend!
[Congratulations, Michael! Now, back to business...] What is your favorite place in Boston?
Probably Harvard Square. It’s brimming with cafes, bookstores, museums, and theaters. I’ve been visiting Harvard Square my whole life and I lived in the area for a few years, but I still haven’t uncovered every nook and cranny.
What are you currently binge-watching?
I’m currently binging Los Espookys and re-binging Euphoria on HBO. Also, I’m always low-key binging Love Island.
How has Cybba helped in your career development?
Since starting at Cybba, I’ve worked across a wide array of platforms and technologies. I’ve also strengthened my ability to communicate effectively with clients.
What do you find the most challenging at Cybba?
Changing the cold brew kegerator.
If you could switch your job with anyone else within Cybba, whose job would you want?
I wouldn’t! I love what I do, and I wouldn’t switch with anybody!
