Employee Spotlight: Tom Lafarge

Every person at Cybba plays a key role in our success. Now in the Employee Spotlight is Tom Lafarge. Read about his journey at Cybba, and his insights on what has contributed to his success as Product Marketing Manager.

How long have you been in this position?

I have been the Product Marketing Manager at Cybba for 2½ years. Overall, I have experience in Product Marketing for over 8 years

How did you start at Cybba and what made you want to join?

I relocated from London to Boston and wanted to leave the corporate world where I had worked until now to join a young and dynamic tech company. I found Cybba!

The other reason why I joined Cybba was because I wanted to work in the Digital/eCommerce industry. I had worked for 2 technology companies before, but I really liked Cybba’s offering with a mix of digital marketing and online advertising.

What tips would you give a new Product Marketing Manager entering the tech industry?

I would recommend him or her to learn to be a good generalist - technicalknowledge, comfortable with analytics, good understanding of Marketing, and a commercial mindset. Pick an industry that they really enjoy and then specialize in it.

What do you enjoy the most about your career?

I love how I get to work with all the different teams across the company.

I work with our Tech team on our product roadmap and translating technical features into commercial ones. I also work with the commercial teams on product and market differentiation, and to provide them with all the Marketing assets they need to explain our solutions and value proposition.

What is something that most people don’t know about you?

I am a big Arsenal fan. I used to have really good season tickets, and still wake up early on Saturday or Sunday morning to watch their games.

What brands/companies do you personally admire?

I would say Tesla and Google, but more than companies, I admire business leaders like Elon Musk, Warren Buffet, Michael Bloomberg, Richard Branson and Bill Gates for their strategic business vision. I also admire their personal engagement to improve the world and society overall.

What is your favorite place in Boston?

I love going to 75 Chestnuts on Beacon Hill for a drink and some food. I love the atmosphere, their big windows and the “local” feel.

What are you currently binge-watching?

Currently my favorite show on TV is West World. The last show I have properly binge-watched must have been Stranger Things 2.

How has Cybba helped in your career development?

Digital/eCommerce and online advertising are sectors I find really interesting. I have learned a lot about all of this by working with some great and very knowledgeable people here at Cybba.

What do you find the most challenging at Cybba?

The most challenging, but also interesting thing at Cybba, is getting to do so many different things and getting to wear so many different hats. There is never a boring day especially compared to working for larger companies where people’s responsibilities are a lot more defined.

What is your proudest moment at Cybba?

My proudest moment at Cybba is having done a major product launch only a couple of months after joining the company and being new to the industry. Stressful, but I was challenged to hit the ground running!

If you could switch your job with anyone else, whose job would you want?

Honestly, I like what I do too much to switch it with anyone else, sorry!
