What does your day-to-day at Cybba look like?
Typically, I am writing several scripts and creating pipelines to automate processes within our AWS environment. This allows us to ingest and deliver data in a reliable fashion by utilizing the power of the cloud. Administrating Identity and Access Management is also a crucial part of my day to day to ensure that our infrastructure is secure.
What’s your favorite project you’ve worked on at Cybba and why?
My favorite project was the one that required me to design and develop a State Machine to re-write parquet data. This was an exceedingly difficult project to complete. However, it allowed me to challenge myself, which was extremely rewarding in the end. In addition, the project expanded my AWS knowledge and created a great format, which has been used for several other automated workflows to this day.
What advice would you give to someone interested in your field?
Being a DevOps engineer is a role that will allow you to grow your skills rapidly. You are exposed to several IT concepts whether it is on-prem or the cloud. If you have the desire to pursue a role in this career field, I recommend that you obtain a few cloud certifications, become fluent in a programming language, and ensure you have a strong understanding in networking. Acquiring and building on top of these basic skills as early as possible will help overall.
If you could choose any other career, what would it be and why?
If I could choose any other career, I would choose to be a mechanical engineer. I've always loved building and creating things. It feels great to imagine something, put the pieces together, and then bring that imagination to life.
