The busiest time of the year for shopping is fast approaching.

This year, consumers will be taking their holiday shopping routines online. Read the statistics below to see the other ways consumer behaviors have — and will continue to — change, and what we can expect for the 2020 Holiday Season.

How Are Customers Shopping Now?

  1. One in three consumers report shopping online at least daily.
  2. 75% of millennial shoppers have purchased things online that they previously hadn’t considered for online purchase.
  3. Buy online, pick up in store (BOPIS) transactions have grown 500% during the pandemic.
  4. 24% of consumers reported having purchased online for same-day delivery from a web-only retailer.
  5. 30% of consumers reported spending more time reading promotional messages in the mail than before the pandemic.
  6. Discounts are more powerful persuaders than ever. 70% of consumers say they have increased savings activity while shopping during COVID-19.
  7. 66% of Gen Z consumers reported having purchased items through a social channel during the pandemic.

How Are Customers Planning For The Holiday Season?

  1. 81% of consumers are expecting expedited shipping options this holiday season.
  2. 66% of shoppers plan to do more of their holiday shopping with local small businesses.
  3. 70% of shoppers plan to shop earlier in the year to avoid large crowds.
  4. 63% of shoppers say they are slightly more or very likely to shop at a retailer they know is following COVID-19 safety precautions in-store.
  5. 55% of Millennials say they are likely to buy from companies whose values match their own.
  6. 78% of consumers plan to rely heavily on online marketplaces like Amazon for their holiday shopping needs.
  7. 48% of adults plan to buy gift cards this holiday season.

2020 Holiday Season

  1. Holiday demand will begin earlier with Prime Day moved to October 13th. Prime Day is expected to steal up to 10% of Cyber Week’s digital revenue.
  2. Ecommerce holiday sales are expected to grow between 25% and 35% YoY.
  3. Cyber Monday sales this year are projected to reach $10 billion, a 6% increase from 2019.
  4. This year we expect to see the acceleration of Black Friday as a digital-dominant event. More than a third of Black Friday shoppers say they will forego shopping in-store entirely.
  5. 75% of U.S. consumers will do more online holiday shopping than they have in previous years.
  6. AppAnnie predicts a 50% YoY growth increase in mobile shopping for Q4.
  7. Salesforce predicts that 10% of mobile orders this season will be made through social channels.
